doTERRA’s Top Ten Essential Oils

doTERRA offers over 80 essential oil singles and blends, with more released every year at the annual Convention.  These oils are sourced around the world, where the plants grow the best, then distilled and bottled with the utmost care.  doTERRA’s oils are tested multiple times throughout the process, and must meet the highest industry standard available, Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (Read more about that here.). You can check the test results from the bottle you’re holding at

Below are the “Top Ten” doTERRA oils.  The ten most popular.  The ten that you get in the Family Essentials Enrollment Kit, the Home Essentials Enrollment Kit, or the Touch Roller Kit.  Just these ten oils have SO many uses, individually and combined.  It’s a perfect set to start with, on your journey with essential oils, because there is so much that can be done with just these ten.

Most oils can be used Neat (straight out of the bottle without dilution), but diluting is recommended most of the time, especially with children, elderly and anyone with sensitive skin.   Print this dilution chart for reference.

Lavender Essential Oil is probably one of the most commonly known.  Lavender is often used to help people relax, sleep, and lessen feelings of stress.  It’s also amazing to apply to small burns, including kitchen mishaps as well as sunburns.  Even animals can benefit from a little Lavender, when they’re scared of the thunder, or running circles around the house at bedtime.  Read more about Lavender here.

Lemon Essential Oil is cold-pressed from the rind of lemons, and has a very uplifting scent.  Lemon is great for cleansing (surfaces, air and bodies), diffusing and adding lovely flavor to beverages and foods*.  It’s one of our most popular oils!  Read more about Lemon here.

Peppermint is the go-to essential oil for headaches and neck tension.  It’s also fantastic for cooling off on a hot summer day, especially if you’ve had too much sun.  Peppermint also helps with digestive issues, concentration, and adding flavor in the kitchen*!  Read more about Peppermint here.

Oregano is antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and antiseptic to the respiratory system.  It’s a powerhouse essential oil for boosting your immune system.  Oregano can be applied topically (diliuted, though, because it’s one of the ‘hotter’ oils), or taken internally* to boost immune response.  Read more about Oregano here.

Melaleuca (Tea Tree)

Melaleuca is another well-known essential oil with a long history of antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, (and much more!) properties.  It uses include supporting the body with issues like acne, fungal infections, canker sores, common illnesses, skin issues, earaches, and immune system support.  Read more about Melaleuca here.

Frankincense is nicknamed “King of the Oils” because it supports our bodies in so many way.  The benefits of Frankincense are evident at the cellular level, which means it really zeroes in on the best way to help our bodies do what they’re designed to do.  Frankincense is amazing for skin repair, brain support, inflammation, and immune support.  Frankincense also enhances the affects of any other oil it’s combined with, so when in doubt, reach for Frankincense!  Read more about Frankincense here.

Deep Blue

Deep Blue Essential Oil blend is a proprietary blend of Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang, Helichrysum, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, and Osmanthus oils.  The Deep Blue blend is ideal for any type of muscle support you need, whether it’s an injury, overuse, strains/sprains, or just tired and achy.  We also use Deep Blue as part of our regimen when one of us gets twitchy, crampy calves or pinched nerves.  My kids in afterschool sports swear by it!  Read more about Deep Blue here.

Breathe Essential Oil Blend is the absolute best thing to have on hand when you have any trouble breathing, whether due to springtime pollen count or winter sickenesses.  The combination of Laurel Leaf, Eucalyptus Leaf, Peppermint Plant, Melaleuca Leaf, Lemon Peel, Cardamom Seed, Ravintsara Leaf, Ravensara Leaf essential oils does an amazing job of opening up your airways and allowing you to breathe again!

Breathe can be applied topically or diffused, and is a lifesaver when my kids bring home every germ they can find!  Read more about Breathe here.  Read how Breathe convinced my skeptic hubby here. 😉

On Guard

On Guard Essential Oil Blend is another game-changer.  Its combination of Wild Orange Peel, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Leaf, Cinnamon Bark, Eucalyptus Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf/Flower essential oils is a powerhouse of immune support and protection against environmental threats.  We apply it topically (in diluted roller bottles) and diffuse it during the winter sickness season.  We also take On Guard internally* for an extra boost as needed.  Read more about On Guard here.

DigestZen Essential Oil Blend is a combination of Anise Seed, Peppermint Plant, Ginger Rhizome/Root, Caraway Seed, Coriander Seed,  Tarragon Plant, and Fennel Seed essential oils, and does a wonderful job of helping your digestive system deal with any problems.  DigestZen can be applied topically, diffused or taken internally.*

I, personally, am gluten-intolerant and can’t handle much dairy.  I am thrilled to have DigestZen at my disposal, because it helps eliminate the discomfort, pain and bloating if I find myself having trouble because of consuming gluten or dairy.  While I still need to avoid them, a drop or two of DigetsZen across my belly has saved me hours of agony.  Read more about DigestZen here.

How to Buy doTERRA Essential Oils

doTERRA is a Wholesale Company.  That means that, although you CAN buy oils and products as a retail customer, your best bet is to purchase a membership.  A Wholesale Membership saves you 25% off anything you want to buy, for a year.  At $35, you’ve paid for the membership with the savings from only one or two oils!  Read more about Wholesale Memberships here.

There are a couple of ways to get started.  You can buy the membership, then add on a few oils to your order.  Or you can join by purchasing an enrollment kit, which already includes the first year of wholesale membership.

There are several Enrollment Kits available – the two that come with these Top Ten Essential Oils are the Family Essentials Kit (smaller bottles of each oil, plus beadlets.  Great starter kit!)  and the Home Essentials Kit (larger bottles of each oil, plus a diffuser. Great value!).

This is how I started with doTERRA, and I am so glad I did!  Visit my website to order yours – and be sure to join Crazy Quilt Essential Oils, to learn how to use your oils!

*About Taking Essential Oils Internally

There are several grades of essential oils that you can find for sale today.  They are not all created equal, and they are not all safe (or intended) for internal use.  You must be absolutely sure of the quality of your essential oils, and that there are no fillers or additives in the bottle (these are not required to be listed on the label in the US).  doTERRA tests its oils more than an other company, and sets the standard higher than anyone else in the business.  doTERRA Essential Oils contain nothing but pure, Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils, and many can be ingested safely.  Please use caution, and make informed choices.  My family ingests doTERRA oils with great benefit, but we would trust none other.
